The news has been met with excitement by members, who have been operating at full capacity due to space limitations at their current location on Queen Street.
Some temporary respite has been generously given by the Management of TAFE in Riesling Street with access to a vacant shed at the complex. Such is the need to continue to make things happen and keep enthusiasm alive.
The new shed, funded by the NSW State Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund, will provide much-needed extra space and facilities for members.
The plans include a meeting room, office, kitchen facilities, metal work room, and outdoor storage.
The Men's Shed was founded in May 2017 with just eight members and has since grown to approximately 40 members. The Shed has been an important community resource, providing a space for men to come together, socialise, and work on projects.
The project has been a long time coming, with recent council approval allowing the construction to proceed. The commitment by Jamie Webb of Focus Engineering to commence construction this month is a major milestone for the Men’s Shed which has been looking forward to this moment for some time.
The new building is expected to be completed by Christmas, which means they will be able to reopen its doors to members in the festive season. The increased facilities and space will allow the shed to better serve the community with ongoing projects
Corowa Community Men’s Shed secretary Graham Withers expressed his gratitude to all those who have helped to get the project this far.
“We are looking forward to the construction of the new building which will ensure that our group continues to grow and serve the community for years to come,” he said.
