Deniliquin Aluminium Windows can offer advice on how to upgrade or replace your windows to improve thermal performance, comfort, and aesthetics.
“We can offer free general advice for all budgets, and free quotes if you’re able to bring photos and sizes of your existing windows,” Rod Priest said.
“For $120 we offer an at-home consultation, where we will come and discuss the options for your home – including whether double glazing can be retro-fitted to your existing windows, and how to get the best value for money for your specific home.”
Rod is a qualified glazier and engineer with house planning and drafting experience, and is perfectly placed to advise and quote on these upgrades.
He can also talk to you about the Australian Government’s Window Energy Rating Scheme (WERS), which gives numbered ratings to thousands of different frame and glass combinations.
“Using these numbers – known as the U-Value and SHGC ratings – enables us to compare apples with apples and assess value for money,” Rod said.
Single glazing vs double glazing
Most windows and glass doors in older homes are single glazed – a single pane of glass fitted within a frame, usually 3-6mm thick.
Double glazing is where two panes of glass are sealed together with a gas-filled space between them, and then fitted within the window frame.
The sealed gas compartment reduces the passage of heat through the glass. Panels are typically 16 - 24mm thick, depending on the application.”
In older homes where double glazing is not an option because of frame size limitations, Low-Emissivity glass (Low-E glass or Smart Glass®) is the next best option.
This is coated with a very thin, virtually clear material that reduces the transmission of infrared rays.
