This award recognises the outstanding efforts of clubs that have had a significant positive impact on their community by contributing to and/or improving the social, cultural, financial or environmental wellbeing of the community.
Following the region experiencing record-breaking rainfall in 2022 resulting in water being released from Lake Hume, Corowa experienced severe flooding from the Murray River.
The Corowa RSL Club responded with the creation of the Uniting Our Communities Flood Recovery Fund, established to assist in the path towards recovery- making resources accessible, with an injection of financial support, whilst rallying together as the clean-up began.
There were three components to the club’s program of support available to the community, with differing objectives:
1. The Establishment of a Flood Recovery Fund
2. Support for the Corowa Golf Club
3. Uniting Our Communities Flood Relief Concert Weekend
“We saw the need to help the community during this difficult time,” Corowa RSL Club CEO Peter Norris said.
“We’re passionate about supporting our local community and wanted to extend a hand to those who have been affected by the flooding.
“The support that was offered was multifaceted with financial support, in-kind support, partnership support through business contacts and volunteer support.
“We are really proud of the way our community got behind us and supported this initiative.”
The Clubs & Community Awards are a unique platform that provide an opportunity for member clubs and partners to share their stories of profound community involvement and altruism.
The winners will be announced on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
