Principal Helen Duncan is proud of the remarkable transformation the school is currently undertaking.
“Our commitment to evidence-based teaching and learning and a major upgrade to our learning facilities and resources has been the cornerstone of this progress,” she said.
“Fostering academic excellence, creating a supportive learning environment, and instilling the values of respect, responsibility, and resilience in our students is our highest priority.”
The school has a large, dedicated staff with four assistant principals, ten classroom teachers, a science teacher, a technology teacher, two specialist literacy teachers and a qualified teacher librarian.
Supporting the students in their learning is also a School Chaplain and six Learning Support Officers.
“Whilst our school is large, classes are small, and staff know every student and their individual needs,” Ms Duncan said.
“Whilst academic excellence is our core objective, we recognise that each child has unique talents and capabilities.
“By appointing a full-time assistant principal for curriculum and instruction, we ensure that our teaching staff utilise the latest educational research and are continuously refining their teaching practice.”
To support academic excellence, every classroom has been equipped with new furniture and furnishings, the latest technology with one device per student, new readers and a comprehensive set of reliable assessments to pinpoint every child’s learning needs and monitor their learning progress.
“However, we also understand that academic excellence alone does not define education,” Ms Duncan said.
“Our staff emphasise the development of values that will serve our students throughout their lives. Respect, in all forms is the foundation of our school community.
“Respect for oneself, for others, for diversity, and for the environment is present in every aspect of our school.”
At Corowa Public School, students develop responsibility by taking ownership of their learning and actions, fostering a sense of accountability that extends beyond the school walls.
“Resilience equips our students with the strength to overcome challenges, bounce back from setbacks and embrace mistakes as learning opportunities,” Ms Duncan said.
“Inclusive education underpins all our efforts at Corowa Public School. We celebrate and promote an environment of acceptance and understanding, where each student feels valued and included.
“Our two multi-categorical classes are fully integrated into all activities and excursions to the benefit of all students.”
