Corowa resident Vera Vowles celebrated a remarkable 100th birthday on November 23, surrounded by close family and friends. Born November 26, 1924 in Yorkshire England, Vera marked the milestone with special letters of congratulations from King Charles III and Queen Camilla, as well as Australian dignitaries. A century of memories and love—what an incredible achievement!

Bingo for charity
Friends of the Corowa Hospital and Nursing Home Inc. would like to remind everyone that Cash Bingo is held on Thursday nights at 7:30 pm at Club Corowa, and Charity Bingo takes place on Friday afternoons at 2:00pm, also at Club Corowa. All proceeds from both events go directly to support the Corowa Hospital and Nursing Home. New members are always welcome to join us in raising funds for this important cause.
CWA Oaklands news
The Commonwealth Bank and CWA of NSW partnered to provide information sessions on how to protect ourselves from scams and fraud. Staff from Cobram Branch attended Oaklands. The Little Black Book of Scams is available in pocket size from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
A Food Handling Certificate may be gained online at NSW Food Authority. Also, a Working with Children Check may be renewed online. Otherwise, visit the Service NSW Red Bus with three identity documents for an on-the-spot renewal.
Save the date for the CWA Women’s Dinner Wednesday, March 5. Details will be available in the new year. Donated items will be gratefully received to raffle.

Wrap with Love
This year the Corowa group of Wrap with Love was asked to transfer Wraps to AKWAK (Australians Knitting for War affected Kids). Based in Melbourne, a Syrian Group collected and distributed Wraps to Syria Free of charge. AKWAK is packing bags containing Gum boots, Sox, Underwear, Jumpers, scarves and berets and will include a Wrap for each child with all they need for the school year. Many of the children come from camps where there has been no education for years. It is easy to see how precious these gifts are for them. Corowa group of Wrap with Love with the help of some Lockhart ladies, has contributed 165 Wraps this year. Our thanks to all the Corowa ladies who continue to provide many squares for the Wraps. Amaranth Foundation seeking gifts
Amaranth is seeking donations of new toys, games, and clothing for children aged 1 to 15 years this holiday season. Donations will be accepted through December 19, with all items going to brighten the holidays for families in need. Community members are encouraged to contribute and help spread joy during this special time of year.
Could your volunteer group use an extra $5,000?
Not-for-profit organisations are encouraged to apply for the latest round of Volunteer Grants from the Commonwealth Government, with a focus this year on supporting under 18s.
Farrer MP Sussan Ley said nominations are welcome from any group developing the physical or social wellbeing of local children, such as football and netball clubs right through to scouts or girl guides.
“Funding amounts of between $1000 to $5000 are available for a worthy applicant, part of $10m in capped funding going to every part of Australia,” Ms Ley said.
“It can help your group purchase things like new tech or communication tools, much needed equipment, training and transport costs, storage, work tools, volunteer screening checks or even insurance cover.
“The first stage of applications is via an Expression of Interest (EOI) form which is available at my website; sussanley.com.”
It is recommended you carefully check the associated grant guidelines before submitting an EOI by the deadline of 5pm Friday, January 17.
Successful applicants will receive funding from mid-2025.
