After stepping away from public duties for the past three years, Fred Longmire is seeking re-election to the council and wants again to be committed to active involvement rather than mere commentary.
“My extensive experience not only as a former mayor and councillor, but with community organizations including the Corowa Show Society, Corowa Rutherglen Football & Netball Club, Past Players & Associates, Junior Football Club and the Ovens & Murray League, as well as the Rural Fire Service, has provided me with a deep understanding of the leadership required to drive effective community engagement,” Mr Longmire said.
“Our shire’s growth has led to unprecedented recognition at both Federal and State Government levels, resulting in significant funding increases. For example, the Federation Shire received a substantial boost from the Federal Governments Drought Funding in 2018- $2 million across two rounds.
“Specifically, the former Urana Shire received $1,415,000, Federation Shire received $265,000 and the former Corowa Shire was allocated $320,000. This influx of funds has substantially improved infrastructure throughout our area.
“The confidence of our communities moving forward depends significantly on strong local government leadership. In these challenging times, effective and unified council representation is more crucial than ever.
“I urge the voting public to thoughtfully consider each candidate, ensuring that together we elect a strong council that is capable of providing balanced and effective leadership across our entire shire.”
