Brad snags top award

Shepparton already has the best vanilla slice in town, but now it has the best sausage in town, too.

Brad’s Magic Meats has been crowned the home of the best traditional beef sausage in all of Victoria at the Victorian Sausage King Awards, and owner Brad Wootton is beaming with pride.

“It’s taken me 15 years,” he said.

“I’ve never done better than third (at the state awards).”

Mr Wootton said the top snag was a labour of love that took at least three or four tries to get right.

“We entered our everyday sausage, what we have every day of the week,” he said.

“Made with fresh product, with our own custom blend premix, which Corona Manufacturing in Melbourne helped us design.”

The beef sausage wasn’t the only award-winning snag, with the store taking out third place in the gourmet category for its Texan sweet chilli beef sausage — but taking home the first-place trophy for its traditional beef sausage tasted the sweetest.

Now, Mr Wootton will be vying for the national prize, with the National Sausage King Awards scheduled for February next year.
