Goulburn Valley Libraries has received $187,000 to invest in mobile library vans, which bring essential services like books, Wi-Fi, and digital support to remote areas within the Goulburn Valley.
Currently, mobile library vans provide support to areas such as Strathbogie Shire, Tungamah, Dookie, Merrigum, and other regions on a fortnightly basis.
Greater Shepparton City Council’s application to bring the Open Library Project to Shepparton and Mooroopna libraries was successful, receiving $42,000 to improve access to library resources.
This means library members can access libraries and their services from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, after completing a simple induction program.
After completing the induction program and receiving a special library membership upgrade, residents can access borrowing services, Wi-Fi, public PCs, study spaces, and print, scan and copy services after-hours.
The latest Living Libraries Infrastructure Program builds on the more-than $48.2 million invested by the Victorian Government in 283 public libraries across the state this year, ensuring they can continue delivering vital services to the community.
“Whether it’s through improved technology, after-hours access or outreach services, we are supporting our libraries to meet the needs of communities across Victoria,” Local Government Minister Melissa Horne said.
“We love our public libraries, and through our Living Libraries Infrastructure Program, we are building high-quality facilities so that more Victorians can access library services.”
